Driven by curiosity, I decided to take the iGENEA DNA test and delve into my ancestral history, expecting it to connect me to the English roots demonstrated by my surname – Hawes. What followed, however, shocked me. The results showcased a rich, diverse tapestry of genetic heritage far removed from my initial assumptions.

Having always believed I belonged entirely to an English heritage - courtesy of my last name Hawes - the results left me astounded. I found out that despite hailing from a British lineage, I also carry a significant percentage of Celtic, Nordic, and surprisingly, Mediterranean bloodlines. In other words, my ancestral background is more diverse than I ever expected, leading me to think that my familial history is laced with tales of migration, amalgamation, and novelty.
