My great great grandfather’s original spelling of his name before coming to America was August F. Howaldt. They mainly settled in Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. They raised cattle and were farmers. Many are doctors and lawyers not just in the arts who might not be famous. Also many Huwaldts are Engineers, such as my father James Elmer Huwaldt who worked on the computer systems of Saturn V for NASA in 1969. My cousin with the same great great grandfather, Joseph Huwaldt who grew up on the same homestead as my father unknowingly at the time also has worked for NASA as an Aerospace Engineer in Huntsville, AL. Another August F. Howaldt, built the first Uboat and formed the famous shipyard, Howaldtswerke, HDW.
