A Personal Genetic Odyssey - Tracing the Surname 'Mattes' through the iGENEA DNA Test
Family name Mattes
Embarking on a fascinating genetic journey with iGENEA, I, a bearer of the surname Mattes, explored my genetic origins and discovered compelling insights about my paternal and maternal lineage. Through cutting-edge genetic markers, the test revealed my strong connections with Western Europe, ancient European women, and potential health prospects.
As someone bearing the surname Mattes, I set out to explore my genetic origins through a scientific journey with iGENEA. This test is uniquely placed to trace paternal and maternal lineage using state-of-art genetic markers found in our DNA. My goal was to gain a better understanding of my family's genetic history and future health prospects.
The results of the iGENEA DNA test were fascinating indeed. For starters, my paternal line, coded by the Y-Chromosome DNA, was quite revealing. The results showed my Y-DNA haplogroup is R1b, which is associated with Western Europe. This suggests my paternal ancestors originate from this region, which might explain our strong lineage traced back to the German-speaking part of Switzerland.
On the maternal side, the findings were even more intriguing. The IGENEA test revealed my matrilineal haplogroup is H, one of the oldest and most widespread groups, prevalent in Europe. It highlighted that my maternal ancestors were likely early hunter-gatherer women who lived in Europe around 20,000 years ago. It was fascinating to note how the migration pattern and evolution of this haplogroup have been impacted by significant historical events, one of them being the Ice Age.
Additionally, in the exhaustive health report, I learned about an array of genes associated with potential health risks and advantages. There were a few surprises, but overall, the results reassured me about my health prospects.
Lastly, the DNA relatives feature connected me with distant relatives who share some segment of DNA with me. Some of these connections can be traced back to 10 generations. It was quite a revelation to know the immense impact of genetic inheritance across time and space.
So, my ancestral journey with iGENEA has been nothing short of enlightening, making me appreciate the wonder of human history and the remarkable tapestry of life.
