The statement that the surname Unverzagt stems from Germany is right.
But the Unverzagts appeared first in Northrhein-Westfalia, to be exact in the community of Gladbeck (north of Essen) and NOT in Schleswig-Holstein.
A member of the nobel family "von Wittringen" (see Watercastle Wittringen in Gladbeck) added the awarding name of "Unverzagt" to his name in the 13th century: Heinrich von Wittringen gen. (called) Unverzagt. The name Unverzagt then spread from Gladbeck to Essen, to Cologne and even had a famous branch in Austria, where Wolf Unverzagt even was President of the High Chamber of the Austrian government at the Beginning of the 17th century.
