Unraveling My Ancestry with iGENEA: The Mongolian Roots of the Wu Lineage

Family name Wu

Through a complex DNA test, new and unexpected insights about my ancestral lineage were unearthed. I discovered that the roots of my family, the Wus, extended beyond China's borders, reaching the Mongolian steppes and Filipino islands. The knowledge reshaped my self-understanding and deepened my connection with my past.

Since time immemorial, my ancestral roots bore a hefty significance on my identity. I've always revered the stories of my ancestors, the Wus, and how they migrated from China to settle in various parts of the world. But not until I undertook the DNA test from iGENEA did I fully comprehend the depth and extent of my ancestry. The test painted the picture of my lineage in colors and shades I previously hadn't imagined. The revelations from the test took me by surprise, shedding light on aspects of my lineage that I was oblivious to.

Growing up, I always believed that the Wus were natives of China’s Guangdong province. However, the DNA test traced the roots back to the ancient nomadic tribes of Mongolia. It brought startling new information to light - the Wus were originally Mongolians who later migrated to China. This unexpected insight completely reshaped my understanding of my heritage. I now belonged to a fierce, nomadic tribe known for their horseback riding mastery, which made me feel both humbled and astounded.

Another unexpected insight was ethnic diversity within my ancestors. The Wus didn't just reside in Mongolia and China; they had expanded even further. Around 5% of my DNA matched with indigenous people from the Philippines, suggesting that some Wus had migrated via Taiwan to the Philippines. This realization made me feel more connected to diverse cultures and prompted me to explore and learn about their traditions and history.

These discoveries shook the foundations of my self-understanding, altering my perception of self-identity. The stories of my ancestors' migrations and settlements revealed a part of me that was more resilient, brave, and diverse than I ever fathomed. Every new data from the test left me fascinated, proud and eager to delve deeper. It stirred a sense of belonging to a grand historical narrative that was a meandering epic traversing different cultures and time zones. At last, what started as a quest for self-discovery now runs with a vein of pride in being a descendent of the indomitable Wus.
